It can be said that the diversity of fungi in the area of Prokletije was recognized long ago by the international science community, considering the fact that 15 species registered in this area are awarded with international significance. A part of those species is recorded on the List of projects of the European Council for fungi conservation and part is on the European Red list of macromycet (fungi).

Some of our authors believe that there are around 2,500 types of fungi in the region of Prokletije, but a lot of research should be done to determine this.

Anyway, a large number of registered types of fungi are important for people, considering that many of them are edible. It should be noted that there are several toxic types.
